Ingredients
- 2 cups dried split peas, rinsed
- 1 cup diced cooked ham
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 medium carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation Steps
- Prep the ingredients: Rinse split peas and dice the vegetables and ham.
- Cook the base: In a large pot, sauté onions, carrots, and celery over medium heat until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
- Combine ingredients: Add split peas, ham, broth, bay leaf, and thyme to the pot. Stir well.
