French Onion Meatballs

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • Fresh thyme (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Form into meatballs.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove meatballs and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and return the meatballs to the skillet. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Sprinkle shredded Gruyere cheese over the meatballs and let it melt.
  6. Garnish with fresh thyme before serving.
